Out-of-home advertising (OOH)
Out-of-home advertising (OOH) or also known as out-of-home, also called outdoor advertising, outdoor media and outdoor media, is advertising that is experienced outside the home. This includes billboards, wallscapes, and posters seen while "on the go". It also includes place-based media seen in places such as convenience stores, health centers, salons and other physical places. OOH ad formats fall into four main categories: billboards, street furniture, transit, and alternatives.
The OOH advertising industry in the United States includes more than 2,100 operators in 50 states representing major format categories outside of the home. These OOH media companies range from multinational public media companies to small, independent, family-owned businesses. Currently, the UK and France are the first and second largest markets in Western Europe for OOH, respectively. Data from Outsmart (formerly Outdoor Media Centre), the UK outdoor advertising trade association, shows that digital outdoor (DOOH) grew by 29.7% CAGR from 2009 to 2014.
